Anointing of the Sick

Many people call this sacrament "The Last Rites." However, we no longer call it that. This is a sacrament of HEALING even while one is in the final moments of this life. Healing takes place not only in the body, but in the mind as well. Most importantly, this sacrament HEALS the soul which means that the soul's relationship to God is made right. As we know, people can be at various stages of illness. This sacrament may be received when one is about to undergo surgery, when one has been diagnosed with an illness and is about to begin treatment, or when one suffers from chronic illness.

If you or a loved-one wants to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, call the office and speak to the Parish Secretary to set up a time when the priest may come and perform this sacrament in the home. The sick person may also come to the priest's office to receive this sacrament if the person is well enough. Also, the priest can go to Oak Bend Hospital in Richmond to perform the anointing.

In cases of emergency, which means that the doctor has informed the family that the situation is grave, and is only a matter of hours before the person passes, call 646-870-1789 and listen to the voicemail for further instructions.
